Critically acclaimed guitarist and composer Will Barnes will bring his quartet to Cardigan Guildhall on Saturday 14th November, performing music from their latest album Outside the Light.
Drawing inspiration from the landscapes and folklore of Mid Wales, the album has received widespread praise from the jazz press, with Jazzwise awarding it four stars and describing the music as “sophisticated stuff in the contemporary vein”, while The Jazz Mann called it the quartet’s “most adventurous recording to date”.
Barnes has steadily built a reputation as one of the UK’s most distinctive emerging jazz composers, blending contemporary jazz with influences drawn from Celtic mythology, folk traditions and the changing seasons of the Welsh landscape. His quartet has previously appeared at Hay Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, Upstairs at Ronnie’s, PizzaExpress Jazz Club Soho and BBC Radio 4’s Loose Ends.
